Astra Carpets replace rotten wooden flooring to outside staircase

Astra Carpets & Flooring Contracts department have just completed a project that was a bit of a first for them.  They were asked to replace the rotten wooden flooring on an outside metal staircase.  Contracts Manager Brian Matthews explained the brief from the client:

We first had to remove the rotten plywood, prior to replacing it with new.  Because it was an outside staircase phenolic plyboard was specified.  This 25mm plywood is specially coated to withstand the effects of water, and this was the first time we’ve come across this product.

To ensure the complete waterproofing we applied UPA to each cut edge, and to prolong the life of the product we also recommended and fitted hi-visibility Gradus stair nosings to each stair tread.

Villency Court Apartment Block in Loughborough

The picture below shows the new fitted phenolic plyboard on one of the landings.  The apartment block at Villency Court in Loughborough is managed by Hunter Grey.  Astra Carpets are the preferred flooring supplier to Hunter Grey and have completed refurbishment projects for them across the East Midlands.
